The county Tipperary hamlet of Coolmoyne was in the vicinity of the town of Fethard, approximately 10 miles east of Cashel. It held its own four day race meeting, spread over five days, from Tuesday 9th to Saturday 13th May 1809, opening with an All-Age Handicap over 3 miles which was won by Mr Hawkes’ Patrick. The next day the Maiden Stakes was contested over two and a half miles and saw Mr Scully’s Game-Chicken defeat Cockfighter and Scratch. The meeting concluded on Saturday 13th May with a 2 ½ mile Handicap which resulted in a win for Colonel Loftus’s Cockfighter after a good tussle with Scratch. There is evidence that minor meetings were held after this date. |
